I was sitting in Haji Sahib’s big drawing room waiting for him. As I looked around I saw beautiful displays, cosmopolitan, a big color TV, a beautiful phone, handmade vines adorning the walls The furniture was beautiful and the sofas were so comfortable to get into. While I was admiring the drawing room, a butler arrived, pushed the trolley, and began serving tea and refreshments.
He simply said, “Haji Sahib is coming; please have tea.”
Haji Sahib’s full name is Muhammad Ashraf. He had made many pilgrimages, which had earned him the title of “Haji Sahib”. Today, only a few people close to him know his real name. I was kindly friends with one of his sons, who was a classmate of mine—he had a good heart and good manners. Whenever we met at parties or conferences, he always talked about our shared experiences.
Some time ago he told me that his father divided all his property, offices and land among his children and committed them all to the remembrance of Allah.
A few years later, he also informed me that his father had borrowed some money from them and had started a new business. This surprised me more than him because Allah was extraordinarily kind to Haji Sahab. His fame was widespread, and his prayers and thoughts were considered a blessing. Many devotees wanted to serve him monetarily, but Haji Sahib always refused and instead told them not to pray and only perform religious duties
Our writers have a unique quality of finding answers to every question. That was why I had found time to meet Haji Sahib in his drawing room.
After some time Haji Sahib reached there. He greeted me warmly, “Yes, tell me, what brings you here?”
I replied, “I was anxious to meet you, so I came.” Haji Sahib’s face shone with light; His white beard and moustache added to her fascination.
I asked, “Haji Sahib, why did you first distribute all your wealth and give it to Allah, but then you turned to worldly affairs again?”
Haji Sahib smiled and said, “My son, there was a mystery in that decision and there is a mystery in this one too.”
“What’s the matter?” I asked in a hurry.
Haji Sahib smiled again and said, “I never share this in any meeting ever, but I will do so today. Listen carefully and decide for yourselves which decision is better—the first or this.”
He described it and it began, “One day I was counting my barn accounts when I saw the deer enter and drag its hind legs. At first, I thought I’d let it go, but then I thought again—deer.” this is hurt and looking for a place to sleep , so I.” decided to stay there too.” thought about how Allah feeds all creatures and thought about how he would feed this dog So, I sat down to watch again.
In the evening a strange scene unfolded before me. Another dog took a piece of meat in its mouth and gave it to the injured dog.
I cried out reluctantly, ‘Glory be to the might of Allah!’ and returned home. The injured dog’s wounds healed over time and he eventually went.
“Then why have you returned to worldly affairs? Have you stopped believing in Allah’s provision?” I asked curiously.
Haji Sahib smiled. “On the same issue I mentioned in a meeting, someone made me criticize. He said, ‘Haji Sahib, you compared yourself to an injured dog, believing that Allah would feed you like a dog.’ But why did you. t compare yourself to.’ another dog.’ You who brought food to the wounded?’
That sent shivers down my spine. Honestly, I thought I was an injured dog but never considered the role of the dog as a way to help another.
That same day, I borrowed money from my children and started working in small houses. Today, there are dozens of cottage industries in poor neighborhoods that employ disadvantaged women and girls. They earn a living and demand I pay.
To me, this is far greater than any voluntary service. About seven hundred families are now making a living through my efforts.”
When I heard this, tears welled up in my eyes. What a wonderful Lord! One man’s effort feeds seven hundred families.

Main Haji Sahab ke wasee aur areez drawing room mein baitha unka intezaar kar raha tha. Idhar udhar nazar ghumai toh dekha ke qeemti showpieces, behtareen globe, bara sa rangeen TV, khoobsurat telephone aur masnoi belain deewaron se chipki hui theen. Furniture bhi aala qism ka tha, sofas itne naram ke banda dhansata chala jaye. Abhi main drawing room ka jaiza le hi raha tha ke ek khaadim trolley dhakelta hua aaya aur chai waghera “paish” karne laga.
Usne bas itna kaha, “Haji Sahab aa rahe hain, aap chai waghera lein.”
Haji Sahab ka poora naam Muhammad Ashraf tha. Unhone bohot baar hajj kiye, jis ki wajah se unhe Haji Sahab ke naam se jana jaane laga. Aaj unka asal naam sirf khaas khaas logon ko hi pata hai. Haji Sahab ke ek bete se meri aleek saleek thi, jo mera class fellow tha aur bara mukhlis aur acha insaan tha. Kabhi kisi function ya party waghera mein mulaqat hoti toh gile shikwe kar leta.
Kuch arsa pehle usne mujhe bataya tha ke walid sahab ne apni tamam jaidad, factoryan aur zameen hum behan bhaiyon mein taqseem kar di hain aur khud faraigh ul baal hoke zikr e ilahi mein masroof ho gaye hain.
Teen chaar saal baad jab usne phir mujhe bataya ke walid sahab ne hum bhaiyon se chand lakh rupay le kar dobara karobaar shuru kar diya hai aur dunyawi kaamon mein masroof ho gaye hain, toh is baat par mujhe jitna taajjub hua, utna usne mehsoos nahi kiya, kyun ke Allah tala ne unpar bohot karam kiya tha.
Door door tak unki shohrat thi, log unse dua ya dawa lene aate. Bohot se aqeedatmand paison se unki khidmat karna chahte, magar Haji Sahab na lete, sirf dua aur namaz ke liye kehte.
Hum likhne walon mein ek marz hota hai jo aam log nazar andaz kar dete hain. Humein har baat ki jasoos hoti hai. Isi liye ab main Haji Sahab se waqt le kar unke drawing room mein baitha tha.
Kuch der baad Haji Sahab tashreef laaye. Bare tapak se mile aur poocha, “Haan, farmaiye, kaise aaye?”
Maine kaha, “Mujhe aap se milne ka ishtiyaq tha is liye aaya hoon.” Haji Sahab ka chehra noorani, safed darhi aur sir par imaama bohot bhala lag raha tha.
Maine kaha, “Haji Sahab, kya wajah hai ke pehle aapne apni tamam jaidad taqseem kar di, Allah Allah karne lage, magar phir dunya dari mein masroof ho gaye?”
Haji Sahab muskaraaye aur bole, “Beta, us mein bhi ek raaz tha aur is mein bhi ek raaz hai.”
“Woh kya?” Main bechaini se bola.
Haji Sahab muskaraaye aur bole, “Is se pehle maine kisi mehfil mein zikr nahi kiya, aaj kar raha hoon. Sun kar faisla karna ke aaj ka faisla sahi hai ya pehla faisla.”
Haji Sahab ne kahani shuru ki, “Ek din main apne godaam mein hisaab kitaab kar raha tha. Dekha ek kutta apni pichli tangain ghaseet kar godaam mein ghus raha tha. Pehle toh khayal guzra ke isse bhaga doon, phir socha ke yeh zakhmi hai aur yahan panaah ki talaash mein aaya hai. Is liye, isse kuch na kaha jaye.
Phir achanak socha ke Allah tala raziq hai toh dekhein ise kaise rozi deta hai ya yeh bhooka hi mar jayega? Yeh soch kar main ek taraf baith gaya. Jab halka sa andhera cha gaya toh meri aankhon ke samne ek hairat angez manzar tha. Ek aur kutta mooh mein gosht ka tukda dabaye aaya aur isse khilane laga.
Mere mooh se be-ikhtiyar nikla, “Subhan teri qudrat!” Aur main ghar chala aaya. Isi tarah woh kutta kahin se koi na koi cheez lata raha aur isse khilata raha. Uski tangain toh theek na hoin magar zakhm bhar gaye aur woh wahan se chala gaya.
Is waqia ka mujh par aisa asar hua ke jab Allah tala us kutte ko baghair kisi mehnat aur talaash ke rozi de sakta hai, toh mujhe kyun nahi dega? Bas maine saara karobaar, jaidad apne bachon mein taqseem kar di aur Allah tala se lagan laga li.”
“Phir aap dobara kyun dunya dari ke bakhedon mein par gaye? Kya aapka Allah tala par yaqeen kaamil nahi raha?” Maine hairani se poocha.
Haji Sahab hans pade. “Yehi waqia maine ek mehfil mein sunaya toh ek shakhs ne mujhe lajawab kar diya. Usne kaha, ‘Haji Sahab, aapne khud ko us zakhmi kutte se tashbeeh di ke usse rozi milti rahi toh aapko bhi milegi. Magar us kutte se kyun tashbeeh nahi di jo usse la kar khilata raha?’
Yeh sunkar mere rongte khade ho gaye. Waqai… maine zakhmi kutte ka socha, us kutte se tashbeeh kyun na di jo usko “waseela” bana raha tha.
Bas usi din maine apne bachon se chand lakh rupay liye aur ek cottage industry qaim kar di. Is waqt ghareeb bastiyon mein darjano se upar cottage industries qaim hain jin mein ghareeb auratein aur ladkiyan kaam kar rahi hain. Wo apna rozi bhi kama rahi hain aur mujhe duaayein bhi de rahi hain.
Mere khayal mein yeh kisi bhi nafli ibadat se kahin behtar ibadat hai. Mere is waseele se takreeban 700 khandaan pal rahe hain.”
Yeh sunna tha ke meri aankhon mein aansoo aa gaye. Wah Maula! Ek shakhs ke waseele se 700 khandaan pal rahe hain.
May Allah tala hamare sarmaaya karo’n ko bhi aisi nekiaan karne ki taufiq de, wo bhi aakhirat ka sochain aur Allah tala humein kaamil Musalman banaye. Ameen.
